The Town Administrator, Iris Hill, has informed the MPOA that trash and debris removal in the Ocean Ridge community has been approved by the appropriate governmental agencies and will begin shortly, possibly as soon as this weekend. As result, it is important that our residents prepare now for the removal of their trash and debris and follow the guidelines below.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES WILL RESULT IN THE CONTRACTOR NOT PICKING UP YOUR TRASH AND DEBRIS AND YOU, AS THE HOMEOWNER, WILL THEN BECOME RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS DISPOSAL AND MAY BE CITED BY THE TOWN AND THE MPOA IN THE FUTURE SHOULD YOU FAIL TO DISPOSE OF IT IN A TIMELY FASHION.
THE GUIDELINES, AS MANDATED BY FEMA, THE TOWN OF EDISTO BEACH AND THE MPOA, ARE AS FOLLOWS:
1) HOUSEHOLD TRASH AND DOWNED TREES AND YARD DEBRIS MUST BE SEPARATED AND BE IN SEPARATE PILES. HOUSEHOLD TRASH INCLUDES ALL HOUSEHOLD ITEMS DAMAGED BY WATER, APPLIANCES, INSULATION, CARDBOARD BOXES, BIKES, BEACH CHAIRS AND UMBRELLAS, FURNITURE, MATTRESSES, DRYWALL, AND ALL OTHER CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS THAT SUSTAINED WATER DAMAGE.
2) ALL BAGGED YARD DEBRIS MUST BE IN PAPER YARD BAGS. YARD DEBRIS IN PLASTIC BAGS WILL NOT BE PICKED UP.
3) CANS OR CONTAINERS CONTAINING HERBICIDES OR FUNGICIDES, PAINT, SOLVENTS, OIL, DRYWALL COMPOUND OR OTHER LIKE CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS WILL NOT BE PICKED UP. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO DISPOSE OF THOSE MATERIALS ON YOUR OWN. PLEASE REMOVE ALL SUCH ITEMS FROM THE TRASH AND DEBRIS PILES THAT YOU HAVE CREATED. OTHERWISE, THE TRASH OR DEBRIS WILL NOT BE PICKED UP.
4) NO TVs, COMPUTERS OR OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES WILL BE PICKED UP. AGAIN, THE RESIDENT IS REQUIRED TO DISPOSE OF THOSE ITEMS ON THEIR OWN AND THEY SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM ANY TRASH OR DEBRIS PILES. OTHERWISE, THE TRASH OR DEBRIS WILL NOT PICKED UP.
